Onslow Literacy Council helping adults learn to read.
Reading is a skill that many people learn in grade school, but when its adults that need to learn how to read, they may not know where to turn for help. Thats where local literacy councils can step in to help, and tutors say its never too late to learn.
OLC Stars Shine
We are very proud of our student, LaVerne Mendez. She started out without much confidence in her ability to learn. She has indeed come a long way. In the picture you can see her speaking during our Once Upon A Time Gala, 2020...with confidence!!!
She wants to give back in whatever way she can. She has made Queen size Quilts to be auctioned off at fundraisers! The quilts were beautiful and very popular. We are very fortunate to have such students & also very fortunate to have their support.

Jessica is a 'Go Getter', a serious student, always completing her homework , often forging ahead of her tutors assignments in reading and writing.
In 2015 Jessica completed reading level 5 and is now on the verge of completing level 6. She passed the 'Jobs for Success Program' and wrote her own resume. Jessica's support system is exceptional and is to be commended. |
Jonathan is a shy young man with varied interests and accomplishments. He likes music, some art, has written a story and a poem. Jonathan can give you some facts about states that he is interested in, information he has researched on the OLC's student's computer. He retains that information and is happy to pass it on to others.
