The tutors of onslow literacy council inc.

Our tutors come from all backgrounds: the OLC family includes former teachers, doctors, immigrants, military members, Service Learning students from Coastal Carolina Community College, and a host of other people with varied occupations and life experiences. Despite having different histories and education levels, our tutors all have one thing in common: they love Onslow Literacy and are passionate about helping our students and community members find joy in literacy and education.

Nivedita (Mini) Mittal
With her many talents and passion for literacy, Mini adds so much to Onslow Literacy Council Inc. She believes education is a very powerful tool that can change lives and that literacy in particular is the only way towards a more peaceful and better world. She works especially hard with our ESL students, bringing joy, imagination, and life skills into each lesson. When she isn't busy working with her students, Mini enjoys observing natural beauty around her and displaying that in her lovely and talented paintings. She also teaches healing yoga classes every week and practices mindful, positive thinking and living.

Meghan Baskerville
Meghan discovered Onslow Literacy Council by simply searching Volunteer opportunities in her area. She has a passion for helping others and serving her community. Meghan is originally from New York, but has been an Onslow County resident for about two years. The beach is what brought her here! Meghan is a College student who hopes to work in the Mental Health field one day. She aspires to inspire and hopes to bring hope to those who feel hopeless. Meghan decided to Volunteer as a Literacy Tutor because she understands the significance literacy holds in order to be successful and believes everyone deserves to reach their full potential. When Meghan is not tutoring, she enjoys art, photography, swimming, being in nature, and playing with her furbaby.

Curtis Hildt
Curtis is definitely a powerhouse in our organization! As a retired Master Gunnery Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps, Curtis brings great structure to the political side of our Council, and he currently heads our Governance Committee. After his service in the military, he went on to obtain his Master's Degree as a Reading Education Specialist K-12. While working towards his degree, Curtis volunteered as a tutor at Coastal Carolina Community College from 1991-1995; once his degree was completed, he went on to become an instructor there in reading, English, social studies, and other GED subjects from 1995-2015. Now retired, Curtis enjoys tutoring, boating, fishing, and camping. He has also volunteered with the Boy Scouts for thirty years, enjoys working with Holbranch United Methodist Church, and also volunteers with Onslow County Fire Commission.
