The hardest word to say is goodbye....
Due to a lack of community support, a decline in dedicated volunteers, and insufficient funding, the Board of Directors has made the incredibly tough decision to close the Onslow Literacy Council on December 31, 2025.
This was not a decision we made lightly. Our hearts are truly broken. For the past 15 years, we've had the immense privilege of helping countless students in our community achieve their literacy goals, and we are so proud of every single one of them. We've witnessed transformations, celebrated milestones, and built a community of learners.
We want to thank everyone who has supported us over the years – our dedicated tutors, our amazing students, and the community members who believed in our mission. Your impact will not be forgotten.
While this chapter is closing, the spirit of literacy and learning will live on. We encourage everyone to continue supporting educational initiatives in our community. We are working with other local literacy councils to find new ways to serve Onslow County. Please watch for updates.

We provide free, confidential and personalized tutoring to adults ages 16 and up.
We help our students work toward their goals in life. They may be preparing for the High school equivalency exam or learning to fill out forms, paying bills, getting a drivers' license, applying for jobs or improving their lives in other ways. We do not discriminate based on age, gender, color, or religion. We assess our students on reading, writing & comprehension skills. Based on this formal assessment and their goals, we assign them a tutor trained through our programs for one-on-one instruction. |
